Faith Abuse

Faith abuse is child abuse linked to faith or belief. For example:

  • Belief that demons or the devil are acting through a child;
  • Use of belief in magic or witchcraft to create fear in children;
  • Ritual killings of children.

If you’re worried about a child, speak to your DSL (deputy DSL) and follow the school’s procedures for reporting safeguarding concerns.

Make pupils aware that they should not be harmed, regardless of their beliefs or faith, and make sure that they know where to seek help.
