Drugs

Drugs include alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, medicines, psychoactive substances (“legal highs”), and volatile substances.

Make sure you are aware of the school’s drugs policy and understand its contents so that you follow the correct procedures should you need to search for and/or confiscate drugs.

If you suspect a pupil of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you must prioritise their safety and that of those around them. If necessary, you should treat it as a medical emergency.

If you’re worried about a child, speak to your DSL (deputy DSL) and follow the school’s procedures for reporting safeguarding concerns.
